Affirming Fashion Program

Prevention Meets Fashion’s Affirming Fashion program is a community clothing donation service that redistributes new and gently used clothing for FREE to communities of color, Black, LGBTQ, and nonbinary individuals and families who are experiencing financial hardship or crisis through our Affirming Fashion Closet and the PMF Clothing Fund.

We avoid gendering our clothing purposely or telling people what clothing is for what gender. Instead, we discuss with you what is right for your day to day living, body and what is affirming to you.

We provide clothing to all people regardless of age, race, religion, gender, gender identity, expression or sexual orientation.

All services provided are FREE of charge. NOTE- After completing the referral form, please allow up to 3 days for us to respond by email or phone. At this time, we will schedule a time to meet with you to conduct an intake assessment as well as confirm the articles of clothing needed, including sizes, quantity, etc.

In addition, we now offer clothing to those in the sex trade industry who may need clothing to work. As with all professions, you need appropriate clothing to do you job and sex work is exception. We believe Sex Work is Work!

The Affirming Fashion Program is also dedicated to ensuring that people continue to have their basic needs met by advocating (Affirming Fashion Project, see below) for policies and monies to be directed to individuals and families that are experiencing clothing insecurity or poverty and those who need access to affirming clothing.

Our Sex Worker Prevention Project interns at Non-Binary Day in Clark Park measuring, redistributing free chest binders and discussing binder safety education.

Affirming Fashion Project

The Affirming Fashion Project is an advocacy and community organizing group with the mission to build a community of BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and allies through collaborations and partnerships to bring needed attention, education, and resources to the lack of affirming fashion and clothing poverty in BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. The Affirming Fashion Project is an initiative under Prevention Meets Fashion’s Affirming Fashion Program. Our goal is to bring community members together to address clothing insecurity and poverty, access to affirming fashion and create a space for people to express themselves authentically.

The Affirming Fashion Project welcomes all LGBTQIA+ people working or seeking to create community and policy change on local and state level; and also allies who are passionate about access to affirming fashion and clothing insecurity/poverty.

We hold once a month meetings and post on social media platforms to involve the community in our advocacy and community organizing efforts.

PMF Clothing Fund

The PMF Clothing Fund is a restrictive fund that provides individuals and families with stipends to buy needed clothing. Individual applicants or families may only access this one-time allowance from the fund once a year in its entirety, if funds are available.

This fund is designed to support our Affirming Fashion Closet, give additional choices to the community and to allow people to buy needed clothing items that we do not regularly have in stock or that cannot be donated second-hand.

Stipends are available in the form of physical and digital gift cards or PMF staff will shop for the client.

NOTE: An Affirming Fashion Closet referral has to be completed first before being considered for the PMF Clothing Fund. If clothing items are not available in the Affirming Fashion Clothing Closet, a PMF Clothing Fund Application may be completed.
